NORTH SAILS WARP F 2012

GONZALO COSTA HOEVEL & PETER SLATE AFTER TESTING THE FINAL PROTO SAILS:
„Today we have tested the 8.6 against last years 9.3 and found it to have the same low end performance combined with a similar high end control like last years 8.6. The same counts for all sizes. Apart from the superfast acceleration, this is one more highlight now. Being the first guy planing, getting maximum speed and a great handling even in high wind conditions, this is our aim at the NorthSails R&D department. We are highly convinced that the new WARP F2012 will yet again be the benchmark in PWA racing.“

Gonzalo Costa Hoevel ARG-3 ( Fanatic Falcon 2012 ) - WINDSURFINGCLUB QSE

“I manage to try the new 140 back home last week as soon as i got back from Sylt. I tried this board during the development period back in Maui early in the year so i had already an idea, but some small adjustments were made since the last proto i tried so i was very excited to see the results.

It was around 10-13 kts, I went out with one of my mates that i normally sail with.

I used a 46 Ifju, which is a powerfull fin and very good one i had. I would say is like a 48 Talon. I use the second position from the front on the front footstrap and the second on the back on the back one. Mast position on 130 and i sailed on 8.6 Warp ’11.

My very first impression was a little funny on the front foot..i felt the difference on the stance having the front foot a little higher and out..took me 100 mts to get comfy and adjust my stance there.
Very quick i felt very comfy on this new stance…gave me a very balanced pressure feel in both legs. And a big plus was when the wind increased in the end of the day, it felt that i could lock my front foot much more than before.

At the beginning i was not very impressed with the top speed but mainly because my mate was not close to me and because everything was feeling very easy and balanced so I didn’t know how fast i was going…I felt it was comfy, balanced and when squizing angle, i could point high but I felt i needed more fin so far…it was on the low end for sure.

Basically i was feeling the same feel when you get into a sick new car that you hit a 100 and you feel you are going dead slow compared to when you are on an old car and you hit a 100 and the car is vibrating and unbalanced but you deffinetly feel you are about to brake the light speed…but if you are on your own and no speedometer you feel that on the new one you are slow and on the old one you are flying…same feel so far..when my mate came close i could see the difference!

When the wind increased a couple of kts the board showed it’s best improvements..the board was rocking..the balance was unreal…i felt now that the fin was right for the 13-15kts we had at that time. So i needed a bigger fin before for sure.
The top speed was very good and upwind angle was good too, I felt it could challenge a formula board…mainly the big high was the control, still cruising while my mates were on 7.8s and 111s…

Accel felt nice too, i like the release on the board..made some runs baring off and the speed increases a lot…very important off the starts for us on the PWA..

I had a big smile out of the water, mainly because when the wind increase and the chop was higher the board felt sweet, flat out all the time.
Some more friends came out on 7.8 and 110 lts board and i was still much quicker than them with plenty of control..
I think that i could have changed to the 113 just too see what would be the difference in speed but not because of control issues..

I felt confident that i could go out and race on it and wont be scared if the wind increases which was mainly the problem this year on the 134 for me being lighter than the rest 80-85 kgs, that’s why i chose the 121..

Very happy with it. Big improvement in balance and control..

This were my first impressions, i gave it to try the same day to a couple of guys and the comments were that it was super easy and balanced.

Happy with it…i will test it against my 121 to see how was the real top speed improved.
BR, Gonzalo.
